About Newell Christian School

Newell Christian School Exists to provide an educational environment that reinforces Christian homes and churches in preparing children spiritually, academically, socially and physically for a lifetime of serving Jesus Christ.

This means that:

  • NCS teaches the Alberta curriculum from a Christian perspective.
  • NCS teaches the Bible as a subject and provides worship and Christian service opportunities.
  • NCS teaches a wide range of courses to encourage students to grow spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.
  • NCS encourages excellence in academics, athletics and fine arts, as well as excellence in character and social development.

The Newell Christian School Philosophy:

Newell Christian School is a Christian school. The purpose of a Christian school education is "to present to our children, as clearly as possible, the truth about God, about life and living, about our world and everything in it, and to present the Word of God as the authoritative source upon which to build a life that has purpose and meaning". (Paul Kienel)

At Newell Christian School the truths from the Bible permeate everything being taught. The students are taught to use the Bible to evaluate all of life and are challenged to see the necessity of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Newell Christian School does not exist to shelter students from the world. Rather, it is a place where students develop their God-given potential to enable them to make an impact for Christ in every walk of life.

Academics

Academic Success

We are proud of our successes. We maintain contact with our grade 9 graduates and their parents as they progress to the high school. Relationships are build with our students that goes beyond just academics.

Newell Christian School uses the CATs (Canadian Achievement Tests), which is administered yearly. This test allows for a comparison between educational performances of private schools and the Canadian Public system. It also allows our school to evaluate our educational standards on an ongoing basis as well as the opportunity to enhance our academic standards.

NCS's consistently high scores allows parents to have confidence that their child is receiving a complete, comprehensive education at Newell Christian School.

Curriculum

The progressive curriculum at NCS adheres to the requirements of Alberta Education. While the curriculum is comprehensive, the children are taught the Alberta Curriculum from a biblical perspective. Providing a comprehensive curriculum infused with God's Word allows the best foundation for academic excellence and success. Students acquire the appropriate academic training, moral values and life skills along their educational path, which helps them to develop into mature disciples of Christ.

From grades K to 9, classes include Bible, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, Language, Reading, Physical Education, Music. Spanish is taught as a second language to grade 4 and 5. The curriculum focuses on developing critical thinking skills, problem solving, spiritual and moral development, student-centred opportunities, self-discipline, commitment, citizenship, and community responsibility.

Our computer lab, sports program (both, inter-school and intramural), drama, student council, and numerous other optional courses, allow the student to participate in a wide range of curricular activities. Each child is encouraged to develop to their own potential through educational opportunities in a supportive, nurturing environment. Our curriculum acknowledges the need for basic skills and information. Students must be able to think, reason, problem solve and communicate clearly if they are to be effective, discerning ambassadors. They will be taught to use the tools of technology in a responsible fashion.
